La Luce delle Emozioni [The light of emotions] Giorgio Savini took photographs of the works of Henry Moore against the evocative backdrop of Sforza Castle in Milan in 1990, in an ideal marriage between ancient war architecture and modern peace sculpture. They are dedicated to the ideal so dear to Henry Moore, who intended his sculptures to be a show with people viewing, touching and admiring his works.
Henry Moore was one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century. The exhibition represented his grand return to Ticino, as the last significant showing of his work in the region was an exhibition entitled Henry Moore: The last ten years at Castelgrande, Bellinzona in 1995. His first public event south of the Alps was on the occasion of the 17th Venice Biennale in 1930, although his first contact with the Italian language and culture came in 1925, when he visited Pisa, Florence, Rome and Venice. For his whole life, Moore remained very attached to Italian culture, partly through his activities in the marble quarries in Carrara and his participation at no less than eight Venice Biennale festivals, from 1930 to 1972. His flair as a sculptor was nurtured by other more remote and exotic cultures, in particular Pre-Columbian art and South African sculpture, the subject of a previous, very successful Arner Bank exhibition in Lugano.
