Exhibition dedicated to divine art with nine fascinating casts of ancient sculptures representing Greek divinities, made in the 18th and 19th centuries. The works are on loan from the Skulpturhalle in Basel, Switzerland’s largest and most important collection of plaster casts of sculptures from the classical era.

The exhibition focuses on some of the central divinities of Greek mythology (Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemides, Athena, Dionysus, Hera, Hermes, Zeus), who had a profound effect on European thought, culture and art.

Casts of ancient sculptures are very important, as they are not simply decorative reproductions, but bear testimony to the forms, reality and vigour of precious works that have now been lost. Often, they are the only existing evidence of extraordinary forgotten chapters in the Ancient Greek civilisation, and are central to our understanding of classical thought and art, the foundations on which the modern world is constructed.
